325 students from 56 countries visit the Panama CanalPANAMA CITY, Panama, July 8, 2008 - As one of the most important stops along the Ruta Quetzal ("Quetzal Route"), 325 students from 56 countries visited the Panama Canal last Sunday. Studentsádid a partialátransit of the Panama Canal from Gamboa to Amador.

The Ruta Quetzal is a six-week trip taken yearly by more than 300 Latin American high school students. This year's program includes visits to Panama and Spain with students developing and submitting an original work (historical, literary, artistic, or musical) in Spanish on a number of topics including the widening of the Panama Canal.
