Job Description
The Panama Canal Authority announces its solicitation for bids for the construction of the last portion of the Pacific access channel to the Third Set of Locks, called the PAC-4 project, located on the west bank between Pedro Miguel and Miraflores Locks, in the Pacific side of the canal, Republic of Panama. In general, the work comprises the excavation of approximately 27 million cubic meters of unclassified material, installation of approximately 1.8 kilometers long backfilled cellular cofferdam water barrier and the specialized construction of a 3.5 kilometers long impervious clay core-rock fill dam (approximately 180 meters wide base by 30 meters high, with a 30 meters wide top crest), which comprises approximately 5 million cubic meters of fill. Other works include access roads, managing disposal site areas, clearing un-exploded ordinance areas, water drainage diversion channels, installing a dewatering system to remove surface and underground water (it involves a pumping and discharging water system), managing and implementing environmental controls, instrumentation, and other miscellaneous works.
Please note that Due Date for Bids was changed to December 3, 2009. Additionally, in Annex A2 from the solicitation page in the Tender Online System (SLI), document in Excel for bidders to input financial to be submitted at a later date was replaced for the final version. The footnote of the first page (tab A) makes a reference to the Amendment 8."
